Description :

Faegheh Atashin, famously known as Googoosh, was born in Tehran in 1950. Her early life was marked by adversity, losing her mother as an infant and moving with her father, Saber, to Tehran. Saber, an entertainer and comedian, recognized Googoosh's singing talent at the age of 5, encouraging her to perform in bars and cafés along Laleh-Zar Street. Unfortunately, her early foray into singing meant she missed out on formal education.

In 1960, at the age of 10, Googoosh achieved success with a notable role in the film "Fereshteh Farari" (1961) directed by George Obadiah. Her cinematic journey began with the movie "Bim va Omid" in 1958. Googoosh's unique singing style, discovered by Iranian composers, quickly turned her into a cultural icon among the youth, shaping modern Iranian music.

In 1969, Googoosh became a fashion influencer, with the "mini-joupe" dress gaining popularity among Iranian girls who admired her. Her signature short haircut in 1975 continues to be a trend embraced by women in Iran. However, Googoosh faced challenges orchestrated by underworld figures controlling cabarets in Tehran, leading to substantial debt in her name. Forced into marriage with Parviz Ghorbani, owner of the "Shokoufeh Nou" cabaret, in 1973, Googoosh became a victim of a conspiracy aimed at exploiting her financial situation. The marriage ended in 1976, but she had a son named Kambiz from her first marriage.

Googoosh's filmography includes popular movies like "Bita" (1972), "Mah-e Asal" (1976) known as "Honeymoon," "Hamsafar" (1975), "Mamal Amricayi" (1975), and "Dar Emtedad Shab" (1978). Despite her success in music, her acting career concluded with the 1979 Iranian revolution. She collaborated with renowned actor Behrouz Vossoughi and later starred alongside Saeed Kangarani in the well-received "Dar Emtedad Shab" (1978).

In 1976, Googoosh married Behrouz Vossoughi, but their union lasted only a year. Her decision to marry Vossoughi strained her friendship with Pouri Baneai, another popular actress engaged to Vossoughi. The Islamic revolution in 1979 prompted Googoosh to cease her singing and acting career after 25 years. Despite lucrative offers, she remained in Iran, refusing to record new albums abroad.

Googoosh broke her 21-year silence in July 2000, surprising fans with a North American tour starting in Toronto. The tour included performances in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C., with additional tour dates added due to sold-out shows. After years of silence, Googoosh returned to the stage, rekindling her connection with audiences around the world.
